Break Free of your Shackles!
Recently I was asked how did I stay so focused, determined and motivated…..and my answer (was quite simple and I do not mean to sound clichéd) …. “I surround myself with people that inspire me to be more than I am and I ensure I have people in my life that boost me up and support me. I am selective and careful about who I allow into my life and who I spend my time with!”
Motivating and helping people to “look outside the square”, see the flip side and change a negative mindset, I have to admit can be quite a challenging task.
“In motivating people, you’ve got to engage their minds and their hearts. I motivate people, I hope, by example – and perhaps by excitement – by having productive ideas to make others feel involved,” Rupert Murdoch, global media tycoon, once said. Murdoch has a pretty valid point (and as a man worth a cool $7.2 billion mind you, you would absolutely hope he would).
Managing and motivating people around you often relies on how you manage yourself and the expectations, limitations and beliefs you tell yourself. It may sound like ‘airy-fairy’ advice but a leader’s mood can have a solid impact on anyone’s performance in life – be it parent, mentor, coach, Manager or professional of any kind! I see it time and time again in my industry with my clients. I spend my days working through the lows of financial hardship to the highs of breaking through long-held negative beliefs and feelings of hopelessness…. and it is amazing to see them grow not only in their financial success but in their personal success; simply from taking a positive step and making a choice to break free of their current negative circumstances, seek advice and constructive guidance and be mentored towards their goals. It all goes hand-in-hand.
This year you should think about exactly the ways you can stay motivated, focused and positive and really have a good think about who you need around you to do this. We all need a team of mentors to help us and guide us along the correct path.
